Regulator Service & Repair
Scuba regulator servicing is a safety-critical maintenance task which should be carried out by fully certified technicians in suitable fully equipped lab conditions. - Regulators (first and second stages) wear over time. Servicing replaces worn parts (O-rings, diaphragms, seats, springs, filters) recalibrates performance (intermediate pressure, cracking effort) to ensure safe, consistent airflow. This work is essential to: - Ensure stable breathing effort, prevent free-flow, and reduce risk of contamination or failure underwater. - Saltwater, exposure, temperature, and storage conditions can accelerate wear. When to service: - Most manufacturers and Dive Centres recommend at least an Annual service /100 Dives whichever the sooner for regular divers. Some divers service more often (e.g., after a certain number of dives or hours of use). Saltwater use and exposure to sand/clutter can shorten intervals. - If you notice symptoms (hard-to-breathe regulator, constant free-flow, sluggish purge, unusual noises, or air leaks), service is due sooner. What happens during service - A trained technician disassembles, inspects, and cleans components. - Worn parts are replaced (O-rings, diaphragms, seats, springs, micro-filters, etc.). - The regulator is reassembled and tested on a breathing/benchtop setup. - The technician checks for leaks and adjusts intermediate pressure and cracking effort to the manufacturer’s specifications. - A service report is compiled detailing works carried out along with recommendations with regards to setup.
